Set in rural America “not long ago”, science teacher Bertram Cates is arrested for teaching Darwin's theories. Famous lawyer Henry Drummond defends and fundamentalist politician Matthew Brady prosecutes Cates in a very thinly disguised rendition of the 1925 "Scopes Monkey Trial".  One of the most acclaimed American dramas of the 20th century, Inherit the Wind explores fundamentalism versus freedom of thought, and features a stunningly climactic courtroom scene.
