Charity Performances
As a registered charity, Dartmouth Players has donated over fifty dress rehearsals to charities and non-profit organizations as fund raising events. Here's how it works:
- Dartmouth Players allows a charity to sell tickets for the final "dress rehearsal" of a show (the last rehearsal before opening night). The actors will be in full costumes, lights and sound will be running, and there will be no stops or interruptions; in effect, it is a full performance of the show, but traditionally it is done without any audience present.
- The charity chooses their own ticket price and is responsible for promoting and selling tickets. If they wish, the charity may also provide snacks and refreshments during intermission. The charity is typically responsible for running the box office and collecting tickets.
- The ticket buyers show up, and enjoy a great night of theatre. The charity keeps 100% of what they earned from tickets and concessions.
It's just that simple. Since we started the programme, we have raised over $70,000 for local charities! Some of the charities we've helped in the past include:
- Dartmouth Literacy Network
- Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia
- Adsum House
- One Parent Association of Nova Scotia
- Waverley Search and Rescue
- Dartmouth Stroke Club
- Nova Scotia Mental Hospital
- National Association of Women in Construction (Bluenose Chapter)
- Scotia Nursing Home
- Bluenose Dolphins
- Metro Food Bank
- Various workplace United Way campaigns
- Alice Housing
- Youth Alternative Society.
